Volunteer Projects


General - Radca? Doradca? (Consultant, Advisor)

Are you a high-caliber person whose advice can be counted on? Do you have expertise to contribute to the advancement of PGSA? Your Board of Directors is seeking members with knowledge in various fields: insurance, catering, copyright, legal advice, financial investment, graphic arts, marketing, or computer technology (hardware/ software/CD creation). From time to time, your Board members deal with specialty items and need enlightenment. If you’re willing to be available on an as-needed basis, for short-term projects, please e-mail the PGSA Secretary, Elaine Kalesics with your name and specialty area. Thank you.


In the Chicago Area


Project Name: Polish Museum Library Volunteers
Point of Contact: Library Staff
Project Description: Working at the Polish Museum in Chicago to answer phone queries, making copies of requested research materials, responding to written requests and compiling membership packets.
Experience required: Computer literacy is not required but is a help. Ability to read/write Polish is not required but at least one library volunteer who can is urgently needed.
Time Commitment: Wednesday 9:30 - 2:00pm or any portion of that period.
Location: Polish Museum Library, 984 N. Milwaukee Ave., Chicago


Project Name: PRCUA Record copying
Point of Contact: Norman Parchim
Project Description: Copying PRCUA insurance death claim records for electronic imaging. There are 33,000 claim files with 3 to 20 documents each.
Requirement: Operation of a photocopier.
Time Commitment: TBD
Location: Polish Museum Library, 984 N. Milwaukee Ave., Chicago


Project Name: Conference Volunteer-Planning
Point of Contact: Linda Ulanski
Project Description: Help plan and execute yearly conference requirements.
Requirements: Having the time to help.
Time Commitment: TBD
Location: Where required in the Chicago area.

National/At Home


Project Name: Polish Church Jubilee Book Indexing
Point of Contact: Stan Schmidt
Project Description: Index the Jubilee books as to surname and first name  content, a page number, and the form of the content (text, photo ad, etc.).  Books can be obtained from your own home or church Library or photocopies can  be supplied from the Archives of the Polish Museum of America Library.
Experience required: Computer literacy is required for data entry. A PC or  Mac computer with Exce or FileMakerPro is required.
Time Commitment: As required to finish the book.
Location: Work can be done at volunteer's home. 


Project Name: Publication Contributions
Point of Contact: Fred Hoffman
Project Description: Prepare genealogical articles on your successes, techniques, revelations, trips to Poland, etc.
Time Commitment: As required to prepare material.
Location: Write at your home.


Project Name: PGSA Website development
Point of Contact: James Czuchra
Project Description: Creation and maintenance of various applications to allow data searches and perform database updates.
Experience required: Knowledge of Cold Fusion or Microsoft ASP required. Most projects also require knowledge of MS Access.
Time Commitment: As required to complete development effort.
Location: Work can be done from volunteer's home.
