During the course of your genealogical research, you are likely to make use of the Słownik Geograficzny which is an excellent gazetteer for locating places that were at one time or another under Polish rule (up to the 19th century).

The following index lists items that were translated from either the gazetteer or other similar reference sources into English.

If you have translations that you would like to share with others for inclusion on this page, please submit them through E-mail (Słownik Submission) or send them to PGSA, 984 N. Milwaukee Ave., Chicago, IL 60642. Be sure to indicate the original publication source and the name of the person making the submission.

For members who would like to place their direct line ancestors surnames with the town listings that are currently on the Website, please send the surname information to Słownik Submission along with your membership number. The information to be sent, should include the ancestors surnames (no given names), earliest date documented existence in the town, your name and E-mail address. If the translation you are seeking is not found in our listing, additional translations are available by following the link Polish Genealogical Society of California for a nominal fee.
